| Wondering what else to see and do in Pilgrim Country? Here are some of our favourite suggestions... Off the Mayflower Trail, on a sunny day, an afternoon pint in the Pilgrim Fathers Inn in Scrooby is a must. Or if you'd like to indulge a little, head to the tearooms in Bawtry for a traditional cream tea. For a different taste of Nottinghamshire, visit one of our farmers' markets. Fresh, local, seasonal produce is available at the Retford market on Exchange Street on the third Saturday of every month. The market at Mansfield is at Buttercross Square on the third Tuesday of every month. And country markets take place in Retford every Saturday morning and Worksop every Friday morning. The Bassetlaw Museum in Retford is worth a visit. Alongside the waxwork of William Brewster and Pilgrim Fathers' displays, you'll find other local history, archaeology, costumes, photographs, agricultural and art exhibits. You can also contact the museum if you're interested in tracing your ancestors. If the weather's nice, create your own outdoor adventure. Explore open rolling countryside, forests and parklands by foot or bicycle. Or why not hire a boat and navigate the Chesterfield Canal? Known locally as 'Cuckoo Dyke', the 46-mile canal has 59 narrow locks, six wide locks, and two tunnels and runs from Chesterfield, through Worksop, to the River Trent at West Stockwith. If you prefer to walk, The Cuckoo Way towpath follows the canal passing through beautiful meadows and woodland. For a professional tour, contact Pilgrim Tours – living history, heritage and faith. Their aim is to give enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to explore the area, with insights into the lives of the original Pilgrims before they left for the Netherlands. A small luxury coach transports guests along the Mayflower Trail. The price includes guide commentaries and a buffet lunch in the historic village of Scrooby.
