Eating out in Notts

Whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat, afternoon tea or an evening of wining and dining, there are plenty of places in Pilgrim Country to enjoy. Choose from rural pubs and country hotel restaurants to town centre bistros.

The West Retford Hotel is open every night to non-residents. Enjoy the intimacy of the Candlewick Restaurant or the relaxed family atmosphere of the Chatsworth bar. There's something for everyone on either the bar or a la carte menus from burgers and sandwiches to hearty steaks and game dishes to Italian inspired salads and vegetarian dishes.

The Mayflower Pub

The suppliers of The Crown Hotel in Bawtry pride themselves on sourcing produce from butchers and farms from in and around the market town. Open for evening meals and weekday lunchtimes the restaurant hotel offers pasta, grills, vegetarian and fish dishes along with daily chef specials. The Chequers Inn is a well established country pub in the village of Ranby just outside Retford. In a quaint canalside position with a water terrace, it offers a range of traditional beers and has an extensive menu. It's well worth a stop along The Mayflower Trail.

The Pilgrim Fathers Inn

Overlooking St Wilfrid's Church in Scrooby, where William Brewster worshipped as a young man, is The Pilgrim Fathers Inn. The restaurant offers a menu described as traditional English cuisine with an international flourish. Another recommended hostelry in the heart of Pilgrim Country is The Mayflower. Located in Austerfield, a pint of real ale or a meal for two here is a must.

A warm welcome awaits you at the The Blacksmiths Arms in the Nottinghamshire conservation village of Everton. Offering a wide choice of hand pulled real ales and local produce, this 18th century free house is an award winning member of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). Ye Olde Bell Hotel in Barnby Moor, is one of the most distinctive hotels in Nottinghamshire. It's set in several acres of grounds close to Sherwood Forest. A traditional coaching inn with log fires, the oak panelled restaurant serves excellent food in relaxing and friendly surroundings.

The award winning Thaymar Dairy Ice Cream is produced in Bothamsall near Retford. Visit the Cottage Tea Room and farm shop to choose between over 35 delicious flavours. Also on the menu are homemade soups, light lunches and cream teas.
